Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United manager with immediate effect as the club report stated that, “there had not been enough signs of evolution on the pitch”.
The former Sporting CP manager will leave the club after 14 months. This comes after his postmatch interview after the 1-1 draw against Leeds United at the Elland Road. Per understanding, Amorim’s emotional inconsistency was also key to why he was sacked.
According to Ruben Amorim during the postmatch conference, he wants to be seen as the manager of the club and not the coach. In terms of this, a manager is involved in every decision mostly regarding transfers and players, but a coach is just given the instructions to work and no ideal key part of decision-making. If the people above him wants to sign a player for the club, they need to get his yes as well, but with what he said in the interview, it seemed otherwise.

Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in November 2024 then, Manchester United were 14th on the Premier League table after a few games played. Later on, United finished 15th at the end of the season and lost the Europa League finals to Tottenham Hotspur.
The stats of Ruben Amorim has not been good enough for a club like Manchester United, he managed 63 games across all competitions, won 25, lost 23 and drew 15 which is less than a 40.0% win rate. Since Amorim joined the club, he was rigid on his 3-back system which raised lots of doubts and criticism, but he never paid attention to such on the grounds of needing more time to adapt.
Meanwhile, in the game against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, United played the best first half ever with a 4-back system but four days later, Amorim switched to a 3-back against Wolves who had only 2 points in their last 18 games. United ended the game in a 1-1 draw at the Old Trafford against a team that is battling relegation.
Per reports, Jason Wilcox who is the Sporting Director of the club approached Amorim after that 1-1 draw against Leeds with regard to his system but Amorim took the feedback in a wrong way and Wilcox described Amorim’s response as “overly emotional”.
