UGDEWA — Kade District Court Remands Five for Assaulting Teacher During 2025 WASSCE; GES Vows Protection

In a significant legal move to uphold the sanctity of the teaching profession, the Kade District Court in the Eastern Region has remanded five individuals for the brutal assault of Mr. Michael Quayson, a tutor at Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS).

The Court Proceedings

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the five accused persons appeared before the court and pleaded guilty to the charges of assault. The court, presided over by His Worship George Davis Ofori, issued the following orders:

• Prison Custody: Four of the accused, who are above the age of 18, were remanded into prison custody.
• Police Custody: One 17-year-old juvenile was remanded into police custody, with his case set to be transferred to a Juvenile Court.
• Next Appearance: All suspects are scheduled to reappear on January 20, 2026.

The Incident: Assault Over “Strict” Invigilation

The assault occurred on October 5, 2025, but only came to light recently after a video of the attack circulated on social media in December. Preliminary reports indicate that Mr. Quayson was targeted because he enforced strict discipline and prevented one of the former students from entering the examination hall during the 2025 WASSCE Christian Religious Studies paper.
